* Note: The present Article without Clause (4) was inserted by Act 26/1963, section 4, in force from 16-09-1963 (i.e. when Malaysia was established). The original Article as it stood on Merdeka Day read as follows: (1) The Federation shall be known, in Malay and in English, by the name Malaysia. (2) The States of the Federation shall be Johore, Kedah, Kelantan, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor and Terengganu.
