The Arab Spring, which crossed Jordanian borders from Tunisia and Egypt, has compelled the authorities in Jordan to respond to the peoples’ long-standing demands for reform. As a response, the king formed a Royal Commission1 to propose amendments to the Constitution of 1952. After passing through government and parliament, the said amendments were issued and published in the Official Gazette of Jordan to come into force as of October 1, 2011.
