Article XI of the Constitution of 1875 was divided into three parts: railroad corporations, municipal corporations, and miscellaneous corporations. After the Convention of 1920, each part became a separate article. The basic language of Article X was taken almost directly from the 1870 “Granger Constitution” of Illinois and reflected the concern of Nebraskans with the most pressing matter in the state’s politics, namely, the regulation of the railroads.
