The Republic of Singapore: Introductory Note

Constitutional development in Singapore started in 1958 when, following the recommendation of a constitutional commission and two constitutional conferences in London, a constitution was drafted and adopted which gave the British crown colony the right to self-government in internal matters while Britain retained responsibility for defense and foreign affairs.
