Jura is the newest of the Swiss cantons, having joined the Swiss Confederation1 in 1979. It is situated in the north of the country and is bordered on the north and west by the French department of Jura, on the east by the half-canton of Basel-Country and on the south by the Canton of Berne. It is divided into three districts—Delémont, Porrentruy and Franches-Montagnes—and eighty-three communes. The capital is Delémont.
