The Province of Santiago del Estero is situated in north central Argentina. It is bordered on the south by the Province of Córdoba, on the southwest by Catamarca, on the west by Tucumán, on the northwest by Salta, on the north and northeast by Chaco and on the southeast by Santa Fe. It has, as of 2010, a population of 874,006 and it covers an area of 136,351 square kilometers (52,645 square miles).
