The Free and Sovereign State of Guerrero, to give it the official name, lies in southwestern Mexico. It is bordered on the northwest by the State of Michoacán, on the southwest by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by the States of México and Morelos, on the northeast by the State of Puebla and on the east by the State of Oaxaca. It is named after Vincent Guerrero, a prominent leader in the Mexican War of Independence and the second President of Mexico.
