The State of São Paulo is a State within the Federative Republic of Brazil. It is named after St. Paul of Tarsus. It is part of the Southeast Region and covers 248,222 square kilometers (95,839 square miles). It has a population, as of 2018, of 45,538,936, which is the largest population of the 27 Federal units. São Paulo is bordered on the north by the States of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the State of Paraná and on the west by the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.
