The militia of the state shall consist of all able-bodied male residents of the state between the ages of eighteen and forty-five years; except, such persons as may be exempted by the laws of the United States, or of the state. Article XVII establishes the state militia as all able-bodied men between 18 and 45 who have not been exempted by state or federal statute.
