Discussion of the Colorado Bill of Rights in this book focuses on situations where Colorado rights have significance independent of the federal Bill of Rights. This, of course, occurs when a Colorado provision has no applicable U.S. counterpart. But the important provisions of the Colorado Bill of Rights correspond with similar national provisions, such as those guaranteeing due process of law and free speech; and most federal rights protections limit state governments through the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
