A clear understanding of constitutional law in Eritrea requires some insight into the prevailing politico-legal situation of the country, including a short account of the modern history of Eritrea. Like many other African countries, the modern-day map of Eritrea is a product of European (in the Eritrean case, Italian) colonialism.
